All Midshipmen graduate with a Bachelor of Science in one of 26 majors across three schools, including the School of Engineering & Weapons, School of Mathematics & Science, and School of Humanities & Social Sciences. To best prepare them as Naval officers, the USNA blends core academic requirements in engineering, natural sciences, humanities, and social sciences to “ensure that graduates are able to think critically.”

In addition to a rigorous academic curriculum, the USNA has one of the broadest sports programs in the country. It requires Midshipmen to participate in one of its many varsity teams.

Admission to the Naval Academy differs greatly from more conventional colleges and universities. The process is open to men and women 17-23 years of age. In addition, all prospective students must complete a comprehensive list of requirements, including: Personal Statement, Fitness Assessment, Activity List, Academic Information, Letters of Recommendation, Officer Interview, Medical Exam, and a Nomination from an official source such as a Member of Congress or the Vice President of the United States.

Whittier College

Join Jodi Glou as she tours the Los Angeles campus of Whitter College. Founded in 1887, this 73-acre campus caters to both ethnically and socioeconomically diverse students by offering over 50 majors, including Kinesiology, Psychology, Early Childhood Education, Business Administration, and Environmental Justice.

Students are encouraged to explore all educational opportunities before settling on a major. Whittier offers its undergrads offers two curricular programs, including the more traditional Liberal Education Program and the Whittier Scholars Program, where students can design their own majors.

Students can join one of Whittier’s 10 Societies, which have been integral to the school’s traditions since the 1920s. Social in nature, these organizations are committed to enhancing relations between their members, alums, and the neighboring communities through their four pillars: friendship, scholarship, leadership, and community service.

Whittier offers many of its students generous financial aid packages, which helps make a private education possible for those who may not otherwise be able to afford one.

One of the college's most famous alumni was the 37th President of the United States, Richard M. Nixon! The school’s mascot, Johnny Poet (who carries a big pen since we all know it is mightier than the sword), lists as one of the most unique mascots in the country.
